Have been working on this painting off and on since Christmas. Strangely, painting the figures has been relatively easy, its the wave which has thrown me for a loop. Until now, I have never looked at the structure of a wave. Guess its the uniformity of line which creates the physics of the wave’s driving power. Anyway, this painting is pretty close to boom tish as my Art Tutor Stephen Buntrock would say.
I was working on it yesterday and got to the point where with each stroke the little niggle whispered, “Gilding the Lily there, stop.” But, I couldn’t help myself, something wasn’t right and I wanted it fixed. I bought it home, hung it on the wall, got up this morning and the answer was as clear as day. The bottom end of the wave was at an odd angle. Grabbing a piece of chalk I quickly scratched in the correction until next week. Looks much better.
With yellow light, the purple and blue become almost translucent. Am wondering how it would work if I put an soft yellow glaze over it? Would it have the same result?
