Have started the first painting in the second series which I may call ‘Dancing Through the Billabongs’. Admittedly, by the time the series is complete, I could and probably will change my mind…Ha!
When we were in Europe we shared an elevator with a very solid black man. I have never forgotten him because his skin was a wonderful colour of blue black, his skin rippled with every expression, his eyes penetratingly dark, his size overwhelming. It is this memory which is one half of the inspiration of this, my next series. As you can see, I have started to fill in the figure and despite using the same technique as I did in the last series, I am using a different colour palette and this is difficult only because I cant see what I am doing!… The figure has been blocked in in black and over this I am working with violet and Burnt Sienna. Hummmmph…. Tried using a little white but it deadens the colour and I want to capture the wonderful blue/purple glow of black skin. Will keep you posted on the progress.
